Our Firm
Boal & Co was established in January 1995 and operates from offices
in Douglas (Isle of Man) and Dublin (Ireland). Our consultancy
team has both actuarial and non-actuarial skills and expertise.
Gary Boal BSc FFA FSAI is an expert in
the offshore insurance industry, and is a well-known industry
figure and author.
Gary graduated BSc 1st Class honours in Actuarial Science at The City University,
London in 1984 before training in Edinburgh, Scotland. He qualified as a Fellow
of the Faculty of Actuaries in 1986 and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
in Ireland.
He moved into the offshore insurance sector in 1987 to become the actuary of
one of the leading offshore insurance companies in the Isle of Man, where he
was later promoted to the board and was appointed actuary, director, compliance
officer and company secretary.
Gary founded Boal & Co in January 1995 to satisfy the unfulfilled demand
for specialist offshore actuarial advice. He has led the growth of the firm
and seen it through significant expansion, and has advised many successful
start-up life assurance companies. He is appointed actuary to insurers in Ireland,
the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man.
In 1995, Gary was co-author of the prize-winning paper "An Introduction
to Offshore Life Assurance Business" presented to the Faculty of Actuaries.
He also served as president of the Manx Actuarial Society in 1995 and 1998-1999.
Mark Kiernan joined Boal & Co in
1997 and was promoted to the board in 2004. In 2010 Mark became the Deputy Chairman of the Isle of Man Association of Pension Scheme Providers. Mark works
in both our Pensions and Insurance practices. In the
Insurance practice he works primarily with product research
and other assignments for our international life assurance
company clients. His responsibilities include management
of system data and customer support for our LifeBase
Offshore software systems. Mark heads our Pensions practice
working with our larger pension clients and our many
SSAS/SIPP schemes.

Paul Forman is Director, Sales - responsible for global QROPS new business and adviser relationships. Paul is a new addition to our senior team, but is someone we have had the pleasure of working closely with in relation to QROPS business for several years. Before joining us, Paul was a Regional Sales Manager in the Far East for Friends Provident International, based in Hong Kong and Singapore, but travelling throughout the SE Asian region. Paul holds the APFS qualification from the Chartered Insurance Industry which reflects his broad technical knowledge across taxation, trusts and retirement planning and is currently working towards the CII Fellowship qualification.
Karen Kelly is a pensions consultant working with our
international and domestic company pension clients. Karen
joined Boal & Co in 2010, bringing with her 17 years
senior corporate pensions experience, having previously worked
closely with a number of high profile multi-national
employers. Karen deals with all aspects of company pension
schemes.
Ian Blackhurst is member of our pensions
team working mainly on occupational pension schemes and
also helps develop our internal systems. Ian joined Boal & Co
in 2009 after more than 10 years with a leading offshore
insurance company on the island
Paul Bradley joined Boal & Co in 2010, having previously spent 20+ years working in the island’s financial sector for some of the island’s leading insurance companies. Paul is a consultant in our pensions practice, focussed on delivering customer service to our rapidly expanding number of Trinity clients.
Sharron Clucas is our consultant responsible
for the management and administration of our large portfolio
of small self-administered pension scheme clients. Sharron
also assists in the administration of our occupational
pension scheme clients.
Jacquie Dawson is a consultant working in both our life and pension practices, having joined Boal & Co in 2011. She brings with her 16 years of experience working in the island’s financial sector for a number of leading insurance companies. Jacquie maintains our LifeBase system, as well as working on pension schemes for some of our larger international corporate clients.
Mark Doyle is an actuarial trainee, working in our pensions and insurance practices. Mark graduated in Actuarial Science from Queen’s University Belfast in 2011 and joined us from University. Mark had previously spent a year with us as an intern.
Carole Faragher joined Boal & Co
in 2008, from a leading international bank, and is a
consultant in our Pensions practice. Carole administers
schemes on behalf of our QROPS (UK pension transfers)
clients, IOM based pension clients and our occupational
clients. Carole has a banking background, with 20 years’ experience
across two well-known banks.
Ben Farmer is an actuarial technician, working mostly in our QROPS pensions administration team. Ben is an undergraduate at Queen’s University Belfast and is an intern at Boal & Co for the 2011/12 year.
Daniel Hall, Consultant, heads up our
Technology division. Daniel is in charge of e-development
and programming, and works extensively on the ongoing
development and support of :
- Our in-house pension administration software
- LifeBase Offshore
- Computer Based Training (CBT) packages for life offices
in relation to product training and anti-money laundering
training.
Daniel also works as a consultant in our Pensions team.
Sue Kennaugh joined Boal & Co in
2008, where she is a consultant in our
Pensions practice. As part of the Pensions
team, she administers our QROPS (UK pension transfer)
business. Sue has nearly 20 years’ experience in
the offshore financial sector, having worked for two
leading offshore life companies and a financial services
promoter.
Mia King is a key member of our Pensions
team, servicing our many small self-administered SSAS/SIPP
clients together
with our larger occupational pension scheme clients.
Mia has more than 15 years’ banking experience
from previous employment on the Island.
James Smith is a consultant in our Pensions practice. As part of the Pensions team, James administers schemes on behalf of our Isle of Man SIPP pension clients. James joined Boal & Co in 2010 after working in the offshore financial sector for over 13 years gaining extensive life assurance and banking experience.
Allie Boal works as part of our Pensions
team, helping to administer our many QROPS (UK pension
transfers) clients and small self-administered SSAS/SIPP
pension schemes.
