Boal & Co was established in January 1995 and operates from offices
in Douglas (Isle of Man), Dublin (Ireland) and Gibraltar. Our consultancy
team has both actuarial and non-actuarial skills and expertise.
Gary Boal BSc FFA FSAI is an expert in
international pensions and the offshore insurance industry, and is a well-known industry
figure and author.
Gary graduated BSc 1st Class honours in Actuarial Science at The City University,
London in 1984 before training in Edinburgh, Scotland. He qualified as a Fellow
of the Faculty of Actuaries in 1986 and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries
He moved into the offshore insurance sector in 1987 to become the actuary of
one of the leading offshore insurance companies in the Isle of Man, where he
was later promoted to the board and was appointed actuary, director, compliance
officer and company secretary.
Gary founded Boal & Co in January 1995 to satisfy the unfulfilled demand
for specialist offshore actuarial advice. He has led the growth of the firm
and seen it through significant expansion, and has advised many successful
start-up life assurance companies. He is appointed actuary to insurers in Ireland
and the Isle of Man.
In 1995, Gary was co-author of the prize-winning paper "An Introduction
to Offshore Life Assurance Business" presented to the Faculty of Actuaries.
He also served as president of the Manx Actuarial Society in 1995 and 1998-1999.
Mark Kiernan joined Boal & Co in 1997, having spent the first 6 years of his working life in the actuarial and marketing departments of one of the island's leading insurance companies. He was promoted to the board in 2004, and now heads our Pensions practice working with both our international and domestic corporate pension clients and our many high net worth individual clients.
Mark is deputy Chairman (and immediate past Chairman) of the Isle of Man Association of Pension Scheme Providers, the island's association which primarily interacts with various IOM Government departments regarding development of the industry, education, awareness and promotion of good practices. He is also a member of the island's industry committee which has been working on the introduction of FATCA with the USA, and a similar FATCA style regime with the UK. As the automatic exchange of information spreads globally via initiatives such as the Common Reporting Standard (CRS), he continues to engage with the IOM Government to ensure IOM domiciled schemes are well positioned for future developments in this regard.
His experience extends to the winding up of defined benefit schemes, having completed the only wind up by an Isle of Man scheme in recent history.

Karen Kelly is a director of Boal & Co (Pensions) Ltd and is Director, Corporate Pensions. Karen's responsibilities extend across all of our international and domestic corporate pension clients, with most of her time focused on our many international pension plan (IPP) clients . Karen joined Boal & Co in 2010, bringing with her 18 years of company pension administration experience.
Trevor Smith is Boal & Co's Regional Director for Asia, based in Hong Kong. Trevor has worked in the financial services industry for 30 years and has held senior sales management positions in the Hong Kong life industry for 12 years. Trevor, who is qualified as an Associate of the Personal Finance Society and as a Certified Financial Planner, is responsible for intermediary distribution and pensions support for Boal & Co pension solutions throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Jackie Hitchcock is General Manager and Director of Boal & Co (Gibraltar) Limited. Jackie is responsible for the management and development of our Gibraltar QROPS business and is our chief local representative in Gibraltar. A STEP-qualified Trust Practitioner, Jackie brings over 25 years of experience in the Gibraltar Financial Services industry.
Raymond Connell is Customer Services Manager and Director of Boal & Co (Gibraltar) Limited. Raymond is qualified as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers having obtained their Trustee Diploma. He spent the first 11 years of his career in the finance industry in the UK with one of the big four Banks dealing with the administration of UK Trusts and Estates. For the next 27 years he worked offshore in Jersey and dealt with Offshore Trusts at Director level since 1979. For the last three years he had a management role in Gibraltar, dealing with the administration of Offshore Trusts/Companies/Mutual Funds and Gibraltar Experienced Investor Funds.
Peter Craddock FCAis a chartered accountant with more than 20 years' experience in the Isle of Man financial sector, including 6 years as Finance Director of a life assurance company. Peter joined Boal & Co in 2014 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in July 2015. Peter, who is a director of our operating companies in the Isle of Man and Gibraltar, is also responsible for our busy Qrops administration teams, and our group Finance and IT functions.
Mark Doyle graduated in Actuarial Science from Queen's University Belfast in 2011 and joined us from University, having previously spent a year with us as an intern. Mark handles Qrops sales for UK and Europe, and is Head of Pensions Technical. Mark is also responsible for our domestic Isle of Man individual pensions teams (SSAS, SIPP and master-trust).
Ian Blackhurst is member of our pensions
team working mainly on occupational pension schemes and
also helps develop our internal systems. Ian joined Boal & Co
in 2009 after more than 10 years with a leading offshore
insurance company on the island
Paul Bradley joined Boal & Co in 2010, having previously spent 20+ years working in the island’s financial sector for some of the island’s leading insurance companies. Paul is a consultant in our pensions practice, focussed on delivering customer service to our rapidly expanding number of Trinity clients.
Sharron Clucas is a long-standing member of our team whose previous experience included administration of our large portfolio of local SIPP and SSAS business. These days though, with the growth in our business, Sharron works full-time in our corporate department as Financial Controller & Company Secretary
Jacquie Dawson is a Consultant in our Pensions practice. Having joined Boal & Co in 2011, Jacquie brings over 16 years of experience working in the island's financial sector for a number of leading insurance companies. As part of our Pensions team Jacquie primarily focusses on providing quality services to our diverse international and domestic corporate client base.
Carole Faragher joined Boal & Co
in 2008, from a leading international bank, and is a
consultant in our Pensions practice. Carole administers
schemes on behalf of our QROPS (UK pension transfers)
clients, IOM based pension clients and our occupational
clients. Carole has a banking background, with 20 years’ experience
across two well-known banks.
Ray Frampton BSc graduated in 2014 with first class honours in Actuarial Science and Mathematics from the University of Manchester, gaining 7 exemptions from the examinations of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Ray joined our actuarial team in July 2014 and his work spans our life assurance and pension clients.
Daniel Hall, heads up our
Technology division. Daniel is in charge of e-development
and programming, and works extensively on the ongoing
development and support of :
- Our in-house pension administration software
- LifeBase Offshore
- Telephone System
- Disaster Recovery
- Data Protection and Security
Daniel also looks after the Facilities Management of the buildings and provides remote support for our Gibraltar office.
Claire Heath is a Consultant in our pensions team working primarily with and supporting our extensive corporate client base. Joining Boal & Co in March 2015, Claire brings to Boal & Co more than 14 years extensive offshore financial sector experience.
Sue Kennaugh joined Boal & Co in
2008, where she is a consultant in our
Pensions practice. As part of the Pensions
team, she administers our QROPS (UK pension transfer)
business. Sue has nearly 20 years’ experience in
the offshore financial sector, having worked for two
leading offshore life companies and a financial services
Mia King is a key member of our Pensions
team, servicing our many small self-administered SSAS/SIPP
with our larger occupational pension scheme clients.
Mia has more than 15 years’ banking experience
from previous employment on the Island.
Brian O’Neill joined Boal & Co in June 2013 bringing 9 years broad experience with a leading offshore insurance company on the Isle of Man. Brian is a consultant primarily focussed on our marketing and compliance needs, as well as assisting with the development and maintenance of our proprietary LifeBase system for the offshore insurance market.
Helen Matthews joined Boal & Co in January 2014 where she is a Consultant in our Pensions practice. Helen has over 20 years' experience in the offshore banking sector and as part of our Pensions team, administers schemes on behalf of our Isle of Man SIPP clients.
Marjorie Rilatt joined Boal & Co in June 2012 bringing with her a wealth of experience from over 25 years in the life insurance and banking industry. As part of our Pensions team, Marjorie provides key office support services to our Consultants.
James Smith is a consultant in our Pensions practice. As part of the Pensions team, James administers schemes on behalf of our Isle of Man SIPP pension clients. James joined Boal & Co in 2010 after working in the offshore financial sector for over 13 years gaining extensive life assurance and banking experience.
Danny Winrow MSc ACA is a chartered accountant AND a qualified actuary (having completed his last actuarial examinations in March 2015). Having qualified as an accountant with Deloitte Isle of Man in 2008, Danny spent three years with a life insurer in the UK before returning to the Island to join Boal & Co's actuarial consultancy team in August 2014. Danny graduated with 1st class honours in Mathematics and Computer Science from Liverpool University, and has post-graduate qualifications from Wolfson College and Kellogg College (both Oxford). Danny works as a consultant in our actuarial team.
